DO NOT get Fred Makofka as your child's 5th grade teacher. He is the absolute worst educator I have ever encountered. I tried all year to get my child out of his class, but unfortunately his was the smallest class (since no one else wanted him to be their child's teacher either) so they would not allow us to switch. I am not sure why a teacher so awful would have been hired in the first place. He constantly humiliates children in front of the class, makes fun of students on his personal facebook page, and you can expect zero communication with him and for your child's grades to drop dramatically. Also expect the school to do nothing to help. I have taken my other children out of the school as a result.
